Chiefs add speedy ex-Patriots receiver Tyquan Thornton

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs have added Tyquan Thornton, a speedy wide receiver, to their practice squad, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.
Thornton, a second-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2022, has appeared in 28 games over his career, with 13 starts. He has 39 receptions and three touchdowns.
His best season was his rookie year, when the former Baylor product had 22 receptions and two touchdowns in 13 games, including nine starts.
The Patriots cut Thornton on Saturday.
In a scouting report for the draft, NFL.com called Thornton a “vertical threat with the speed and poise to win deep (with) an excellent feel for maintaining spacing when working against zone coverage.”
At the NFL combine, Thornton ran a 4.28 40-yard dash, the fastest by a wide receiver that year.
The Chiefs have five wide receivers on the active roster: Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeAndre Hopkins and Mecole Hardman.
Three others are on injured reserve: Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Rashee Rice and Skyy Moore, who was selected four spots behind Thornton in 2022.
Four others are on the practice squad: Justyn Ross, Nikko Remigo, Montrell Washington and Cornell Powell.
