KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Brace yourself: The Mahomes Mohawk is gone.

But we knew this day would come, because Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes talked about it during the 2023 Netflix docuseries “Quarterback.”

There was a short exchange between Mahomes and his trainer, Bobby Stroupe, in which they discussed the iconic hairstyle.

“This is my last year with the hair,” Mahomes told Stroupe. “The hair is gone next year. I’m going different hairstyle (than) this year. ... I almost did it this year, but Head and Shoulders would have been mad. I can’t have two kids and a Mohawk.”

Stroupe asked: “Why not?”

“Cause I gotta be a dad at some point, know what I mean?” Mahomes responded. “Imagine being 40 years old with this haircut. I mean, come on.”

Mahomes kept the Mohawk for the 2024 season, but it appears he has finally made that change.

Photos of Mahomes from the funeral service for his grandfather Randy Martin show a new look for the Chiefs quarterback.

The Mahomes Mohawk has been a popular hairstyle in Kansas City since he joined the Chiefs in 2017. As the Chiefs success has increased, that look has been copied by others around the country.

It even was the subject of a State Farm commercial a few years back.

Mahomes told AOL in 2019 that the hairstyle was the result of a friendly bet with a buddy when he was younger. They each grew out their hair and wanted to see who would go the longest before finally cutting it.

“As I grew it out, I realized that I actually liked it a lot,” Mahomes told AOL Sports. “So, I kept it going.”

But now it’s time for something new for Mahomes.
