DETROIT — With injuries stacking up defensively, the Detroit Lions have brought in a number of reinforcements in recent days.

Add a former All-Pro safety to that list.

Jamal Adams is signing with Detroit's practice squad, a league source confirmed to The Detroit News. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the move and further explained the idea is Adams, who "had been eyeing an opportunity with a playoff contender," will eventually make his way to the active roster.

Adams, 29, was most recently a member of the Titans, who he signed a one-year deal with this summer. He hit the reserve/non-football injury list in October and reportedly requested his release thereafter. Adams appeared in three games with Tennessee, logging four tackles on just 20 total snaps.

A star at LSU who was drafted by the Jets No. 6 overall in 2017, Adams started his career with three seasons in New York. He earned his first Pro Bowl nod in 2018, and he notched a first-team All-Pro honor in 2019 before he requested a trade and was sent, along with a fourth-round selection, to the Seahawks in exchange for Bradley McDougald, two first-rounders and a third-rounder.

Adams spent four seasons in Seattle, posting 221 tackles (22 for loss), 11 pass deflections, 9 1/2 sacks, six forced fumbles and two interceptions. The Seahawks released Adams in March, and he ended up with the Titans in July.

Other recent signees to the Lions include defensive linemen Myles Adams and Jonah Williams and linebacker Kwon Alexander. All three of those players were previously on practice squads, with the trio coming from Seattle, Denver and the Los Angeles Rams, respectively.

The Lions currently have a more than a dozen defenders on injured reserve, including starters Aidan Hutchinson, Alex Anzalone, Marcus Davenport and Derrick Barnes.
