Steve Breen
Political cartoonist Steve Breen first found his inspiration in Mad magazine, which he read as a child. At the age of 19, he got his first cartoon published in Newsweek, and went on to win the John Locher and Charles M. Schulz cartooning awards for his comics in the University of California's student newspaper.
In addition to earning a degree in political science and a U.S. history teaching credential, Breen has worked since 2001 as an editorial cartoonist for the San Diego Union-Tribune. Other honors include the 2007 Berryman Award, as well as the 1998 and 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning.
