White to Play
Published in Chess Puzzles
White’s rook is attacked and his piece up is balanced by Black’s extra pawns and both king positions being vulnerable.
1.Qf6!! Qxb1+ 1...Rd7 2.Ne6 Qg3 (2...Kh7 3.Nf8+ Kg8 4.Nxd7 Qxb1+ 5.Kh2 Qc1 6.Qf8+ Kh7 7.Nf6#) 3.Qf8+ Kh7 4.Ng5+ 2.Kh2 Qxb3 3.Qxd8+ Kg7 4.Qe7+ Kg8 5.Ne6 Qc3 6.Qf8+ Kh7 7.Ng5# I’m always entertained by the excellent teamwork of the queen and knight. One reason is that in a sense they are three pieces as the queen is a rook and bishop combined, so you have rook, bishop and knight…Quite a trio!
