Kate Winslet is set to make her directorial debut.

The 49-year-old actress has been a mainstay in Hollywood for decades, having starred in hits like 'Titanic' and 'The Reader' but she will now be stepping behind the camera for the first time to helm the Netflix drama film 'Goodbye June', The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

According to the outlet, the 'Academy Award-winning actress will also produce and star in the project, and will appear alongside Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Dame Helen Mirren.

Kate - who is married to Edward Abel Smith and has 11-year-old Bear with him but also has Mia , 24, with her ex-husband Jim Threapleton and Joe, 21, with second husband Sam Mendes - has seen her middle child write the screenplay for the project.

The actress will also produce the film alongside Kate Solomon, who previously worked with her on 2023 film 'Lee', in which Kate played the title role of the famed wartime fashion photographer.

The synopsis for the film reads: "Goodbye June is a present day, fictional drama, set in England. A touching, yet humorous story which sees a fractured group of siblings pull together under sudden and trying circumstances."

No release date has been announced for the drama yet, but on-location production will begin "soon", according to the streaming giant.

Kate previously noted that she had often been asked to direct before and had always refused but then decided that she was "letting down other women" by not taking on the challenge.

Speaking on the 'How to Fail with Elizabeth Day' podcast, she said: "So many people will say to me on film sets, people I work with and know well, whether it's an actor or a crew member, they will say, 'Why aren't you directing?' and I'll go 'No, no, no, please don't say it. Stop saying it. Why does everyone keep saying it?

"But the more I'm not doing it now, with the need to change the culture, the more I feel like I'm actually letting down other women by not doing it. I'm really starting to feel that in quite a loud way!"
