Shailene Woodley still gets choked up discussing 'toxic' Aaron Rodgers relationship

NEW YORK — Shailene Woodley says she still gets choked up over her relationship with Aaron Rodgers, nearly three years after the couple called it quits.
The “Big Little Lies” star, 33, and 41-year-old controversial Jets quarterback got engaged during the COVID-19 quarantine, which sources confirmed in February 2021. They called it off a year later, with insiders at the time saying Rodgers “put football first.”
“I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry,” the actress and environmentalist tearfully told Outside magazine’s Outsiders of the Year issue. “It was not right. But it was beautiful.”
She later referred to “a really awful, traumatic thing” that happened in early 2022, though she didn’t explicitly confirm she was referring to the relationship’s demise.
“I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy,” Woodley said of the time, adding that she stayed in a “toxic situation” because “empathy kind of kept me in this loop of feeling everything for everyone.”
“That was the lowest low of my life,” Woodley said, revealing she fell into a roughly six-month period of depression.
In March 2022, Woodley reportedly accompanied Rodgers to Packers teammate David Bakhtiari’s wedding as a means of “support.” By the following month, a source told E! News that after they ended their engagement, Woodley “tried to give it another shot” with Rodgers. But that second go-round didn’t last long and Woodley was soon “done with it again.”
“She quickly saw that everything was on his terms and nothing was going to change,” the insider said of the brief reconciliation.
