Eighth body found in New England, sparking serial killer concerns
Published in News & Features
The body of a woman was uncovered in Massachusetts earlier this week, the latest set of remains recently found in the New England area, where residents are growing increasingly concerned about the potential of a serial killer.
Since the beginning of March, eight people — most of them women — have been found dead across several states, including Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The latest discovery was made on Tuesday morning, while officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to reports of an unresponsive person off a bike path near the 1500 block of Hall of Fame Avenue, Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh said.
The remains belonged to that of an adult woman, but she has not been identified and her cause of death was not provided, according to Boston 25. Walsh noted the department will carry out an “unattended death investigation,” pending the results of an autopsy.
Meanwhile, in Plymouth, a human skull was uncovered in the woods of Route 3 on March 6. The same day, the body of a woman — identified as 35-year-old Paige Fannon of West Islip, N.Y. — was found in Norwalk, Conn., police said. Others found last month include, Denise Leary, 59, whose body was discovered in New Haven on March 21 and Michele Romano, 56, of Warwick, New York, who was found on March 26 in Foster, Rhode Island.
None of the other potential victims has been identified.
Authorities have said they have yet to uncover any evidence to connect the cases, but that has not stopped chatter and speculation from unfolding online.
The New England SK group on Facebook was created as a forum for theories and conversations about the recently found bodies. It currently boasts more than 21,000 members.
