Parents of Maryland man who turned up dead on Bahamas beach seek answers

A Maryland man turned up dead near a private beach resort in the Bahamas during a vacation with his family, who said they suspect foul play in his death.
Dinari McAlmont, a 23-year-old music producer, traveled with his parents on Friday from Bowie to the tropical island nation for a stay at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort, not far from the capital city of Nassau. After grabbing dinner that night, McAlmont took off on his own to explore the area around 9 p.m., according to Fox 5 DC.
Some time later, hotel staff showed up at the family’s room and asked them about McAlmont’s whereabouts.
“The police said they were looking for him because apparently he spat on some staff in a restaurant,” Michelle McAlmont, the victim’s mother, told the outlet. She added that she spent the next several hours texting and trying to connect with her son to no avail. When she realized the location on his phone was not working, she scoured the hotel and then filed a missing persons report when she could not find him.
McAlmont’s body was discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning — some 12 hours after he arrived — on the shoreline of Paradise Island with “no vital life signs,” according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
An investigation into his cause of death is ongoing, but Michelle said her son was badly beaten and that she was “traumatized” when she was forced to identify his body.
“They beat my son down in the sand,” she said, adding that his hair was covered in it. “I need justice for my baby. I need justice.”
The Atlantis resort in a statement said it is cooperating with authorities’ investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our guests,” it told Fox 5. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the guest’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. This is an active police investigation, and we are fully cooperating.”
