BOSTON — Massachusetts Congressman Stephen Lynch has been tapped to serve on a subcommittee of the new Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency, vowing to protect “hardworking federal workers from the threats of mass layoffs.”
House Democrats have named their members to serve on the DOGE Subcommittee on Oversight, with Lynch joining a handful of his colleagues in partnering with Musk’s commission to cut government spending.
Lynch, who will continue to serve on the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, posted on social media about his appointment to the DOGE Subcommittee on Wednesday, a day after receiving the nod.
“As a member of the DOGE Subcommittee,” Lynch said, “I am dedicated to working with my Democratic colleagues to defend our hardworking federal workers from the threats of mass layoffs proposed by Vivek Ramaswamy, Elon Musk, and the Trump administration.
“From the Doctors, Nurses, and staff at our VA hospitals, to Federal Law Enforcement personnel who protect our borders, to the Postal workers who deliver the mail,” he added, “our federal workforce should be treated with respect for the important work that they do.”
New Mexico Rep. Melanie Stansbury will serve as the Democratic ranking member of the subcommittee opposite Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who will lead the Republicans.
Hours after retaking office on Monday, President Trump signed an executive order creating DOGE, to be established within the Executive Office of the President.
Trump said DOGE would “provide advice and guidance from outside of government” after he won the November election.
Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy had jointly vowed to cut billions from the federal budget and usher in “mass headcount reductions across the federal bureaucracy.”
But Ramaswamy left DOGE this week as he mulls a run for governor of Ohio.
